Strategies to Overcome Stereotypes and Limiting Visual Patterns
As a result of the research during the MA Animation at the Master Institute of Visual Culture, I wrote a report, that explores and strategies in the animation industry to overcome stereotypical representations and create empowering images. I introduce some of the organizations and networks working for equality for marginalized groups in the animation industry and summarize conversations with various artists and their subjective approaches to empowering storytelling, character design, illustration, and work environments. Case studies of best-practice animation projects and contributions from conferences on the topic provide broader insight into the discourse. As a conclusion you can find critical questions and strategies to support artists in creating empowering images in the future.
